Arrival of Students

Students who are bused to school will be dropped off in the lot on the west side of the school.  Students who are dropped off by parents/guardians may be dropped off along the curb on either side of the school (i.e., either on 8th or 9th Ave.) or in front of school at Door 1.

All students who are dropped off will wait outside (weather permitting) until the doors open at 8:55 a.m.  We are asking that students not arrive at school before 8:55 a.m., as there is NO SUPERVISION prior to that time.

Breakfast and Lunch Information

Breakfast begins at 8:55 a.m.  Students who walk or get dropped off at school should enter through door #1 and go directly to the breakfast cart set up the gym.  Students riding the bus will enter through door # 7 and go directly to the breakfast cart set-up at the intersection directly down the hallway.  Once students have received their breakfast they will proceed to their classroom where they will eat it.  All of our students are welcome to partake in the breakfast if their family chooses to do so.

Students purchasing breakfast and hot lunches or milk for cold lunch need to pay in advance by bringing money to school, sending money to Food Services at the Edison Building, or go online and pay through PAMS (Parent Account Management System),   Breakfast is FREE for kindergarten students and $1.25 for 1st-5th grade students.  Lunches cost $2.35. Students who qualify for reduced price meals will receive lunch and breakfast at no charge.

Crossing Guards/School Patrol
Supervision is provided from 8:40-9:05 a.m. and 3:30-4:00 p.m. every day at the following crossings:

18th Street and 9th Avenue (School Patrol)

The morning bell rings at 8:55 a.m. and students are expected to be in their seats by 9:05 a.m.  Please schedule any lessons (i.e. tutoring, piano, sports) before 9:05 a.m. or after 3:30 p.m.  Visits to a doctor, a dentist, illness, or serious illness or death in the immediate family constitute excused absences.  Parents are asked to call the school absence line (328-3301) by 9:15 a.m.  If a student is absent and not reported a telephone, a call will be made to the parent's home or work place.  This procedure is intended to provide for the student's safety through consistent home and school communication.  Your cooperation in telephoning your student's absence is greatly appreciated.

Dismissal of Students

At the end of the school day, student pick-up area is in the west parking lot (the old bus pick-up lot off of 8th Ave).  Parents will access this lot from 8th Ave., drive in and pick-up their child who will be waiting by the Door 13 entrance.   All of our students who ride a general education bus will load curbside on 8th Ave.  Our students who walk home will exit the building at Door 7, 13 and 17. The area in front of the school is designated for our Special Education buses and students who are riding school or community issued vans.

Communication To/From School

Parent communication will be frequent throughout the school year.  We will be sending weekly email updates on Skyward/Skylert and on our Facebook page.  If you have not signed up Skyward/Skylert, please stop in the office for assistance.  To sign up for the Franklin/Montessori at Franklin Facebook page, go to the following link on our webpage:

*Please note – if you do not have computer access, please contact the school office or classroom teacher to make other arrangements to receive communication.

In an attempt to keep school day interruptions to a minimum, please arrange after school plans with your child before he/she leaves for school.  In case something arises after your child leaves for school and you need to get a message to him/her, PLEASE call the office before 3:00 p.m. This gives the office time to get the message to the teacher before the end of the day.

Conferences are from 4:00-8:00pm as follows:
Tuesday, October 11      Tuesday, February 7
Thursday, October 13     Thursday, February 9

If your child needs to take medication while at school, a “permission to administer medication” form needs to be completed.  Parents and the child’s physician need to sign this form.  If the medication is an over the counter medication, just the parent signature is required.

Inclement Weather
Parents are expected to complete an Inclement Weather form.  Forms will be given to you to complete at Meet the Teacher.  This is to inform the classroom teacher of the student’s plan in case of inclement weather.  It is the parents’ responsibility to inform the classroom teacher if the instructions change throughout the school year.

In the event of inclement weather before/after school and during recess (i.e., rain/cold weather) students will be allowed indoors.  Please read the guidelines below.

+1 degree or above (or wind-chill -9 or above) - Outside 0 degrees or lower (or wind chill -10 or lower) Inside

Sending Treats to School

If parents would like to bring treats to school, they need to contact the classroom teacher as to what you are bringing and when you plan to bring the treats.  All food for room parties, birthday treats, etc. must be secured from commercial sources such as bakeries and dairies. State health regulations do not allow for home baked/cooked items.
